Leadership

Mark Croxon founded Thames Bench Limited in July 2018 to assist financial firms in addressing their regulatory compliance needs and to help them successfully adapt to the resulting changes in market structure. Over the past five years, Mark has developed the core proposition to be the consultant of choice for industry working groups and trade associations to identify common challenges, and to gain consensus and drive momentum towards the adoption of common solutions.

Mark has 30 years’ experience in the financial industry creating and executing strategies for developing client focussed businesses. Since the financial crisis these businesses have been at the centre of the focus of the new global regulations, and he has executed strategies and product development to allow those firms to thrive in the developing market environment.

At Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein and at Barclays Capital Mark led the creation and expansion of FX Prime Brokerage and OTC Derivative Intermediation in close association with cross product margining mechanisms. Over time these services required significant change as legislation was enacted around capital requirements and the custody of client assets, and Dodd-Frank and EMIR formalised the G20 commitment to enforce central clearing of derivatives.

At Nomura Mark led the creation of the OTC Derivative Client Clearing business, setting and selling the business case and commercial strategy, securing budget and creating a broad cross-functional team from Trading, Sales, Legal, Compliance, Operations and Technology to deliver the product technology and service. In this role Mark worked closely with an extensive network of industry colleagues, global clearing houses and regulators to help shape ongoing innovations in the sector.

As the OTC clearing business became established Mark took on a wider front office regulatory response role, setting the priorities and action plans across the broader regulatory spectrum including further capital regulations, CSDR, EMIR reporting and MiFID II.

In 2015 Mark joined Bloomberg successfully leading the consolidated, enterprise wide strategy, marketing and execution of the firm’s MiFID II offering. In addition to this primary role Mark contributed to internal working groups and white papers on the dynamic competitive landscape of trading venues, exchanges, clearing houses, software vendors and data companies, and on developing distributed ledger and blockchain technology.

In 2021, after working in association with JDX Consulting on a number of Financial Market Infrastructure initiatives, Mark joined that firm, later acquired by Delta Capita, to establish and grow the market structure practice.

Since June 2023, Mark is back, independently focussing on market structure assignments through Thames Bench.
